like a lady

Life, love, BUST Magazine—they’re all to blame for my Cha Cha Charming negligence. SXSW left me without a voice, but I had two back-to-back BUST parties to attend to—one with disco punks the Gossip and the next with British rock ‘n’ rollers the Duke Spirit (“Sheila, you’re so sexual,” said lead singer Liela. Greatest compliment I’ve ever been paid). Then it was the Ark three days later where I used whatever was left of my voice to participate in audience backup for “Calleth You, Cometh I”—a lil’ bit of glam-rock ecstasy and my current favorite song. If all my Ark gushing hasn’t worked, read Hugo Lindgren's piece at New York magazine.

On April 5, we celebrated the one-year anniversary of Le One Night Stand with a massive party for Serge Gainsbourg. Bob Stanley from Saint Etienne flew in to DJ, La Laque, Die Romantik (with queen DJette Melody Nelson) and Nous Non Plus paid tribute with Serge covers and a surprise ‘80s ending— “Ca Plane Pour Moi” and “99 Luftballons.” International pop records all night long and some of the sexiest go-go dancing by LONS veteran Janis and naughty newbie Georgi.

Oh yes, just quickly. I’ll be DJing tomorrow night—Saturday April 22nd at the Flip City party—all ‘60s, all 45s at the Tainted Lady, 318 Grand St., @ Havermeyer, in beautiful colonial Williamsburg.

Bobby Goldsboro’s “Honey” has officially been declared the worst song of all time. I think Meat Loaf’s “I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)” is SIGNIFICANTLY worse. I thought the Grateful Dead was my most hated band until I remembered Meat Loaf.

Tonight I found a new hero. Anthony Lane. If any of you have the April 26, 2006 issue of The New Yorker, do not miss his European Journal “High and Low” piece. Oh my lord is he the greatest writer. Funny as hell. My new fave. I’m off to the bookstore first thing in the morning to buy Nobody’s Perfect: Writings From The New Yorker.

And now for the photographic evidence of drunken debauchery.....
