My Brilliant Feat

12.29.05

I woke up this morning with a stiff neck, a sore back, aching arms and legs, yet all I did was sit in a bar for six hours! I think I took a cab straight home from Motor City last night. Hmmm.... a bit concerning. I mean disconcerting (thanks brother).

Spent a good part of the morning learning about George Best (Irish-born soccer/football hero who recently died) for absolutely no reason since I'm not the least bit interested in sports. But I was searching the iTunes music store for some Bee Gees track and stumbled upon "My Brilliant Feat," a musical tribute to George Best by Men At Work vocalist Colin Hay. Since I haven't heard the song, I can't tell you if it's as bad as Puff Daddy's lame tribute to Biggie Smalls, but I imagine it's close. Seems there's a bit of controversy surrounding "My Brilliant Feat." Y'see, the cause of Best's death has been listed as "multiple organ failure," so proceeds from the tribute are being donated to the Organ Donor Family Network. Truth is, however, the man drank himself to death. As one reviewer pointed out, "he destroyed his first liver through drinking, and upon receiving his second, ignored doctor's advice and continued with the same." So the person who consciously destroyed his donated liver is now the poster boy for organ donation. Brilliant!

My dreams for the past three nights all involved Barry Gibb, which reminds me of my plan to make 2006 a Bee Gees appreciation year. I love the Bee Gees—so much that I want to do them right by purchasing one Bee Gees LP a month (beginning with their debut and continuing in chronological order) and spend a significant amount of time really getting to know each one. It'll be my personal Bee Gees salon! Feel free to join me. We shall begin on January 2nd with Bee Gees First.

Please excuse this very immature diary entry. I just discovered the hotness that is comedian Andy Samberg (Saturday Night Live) and I've once again regressed into a gushing 13-year-old. I have no idea if this recent clip from SNL will translate outside of NYC, but it's hilarious.

Andy Samberg is it for 2006. Guaranteed. Tracie promised to stalk him with me.

Happy Holidays!

Two-week recap

12.13.05

New Year's Resolution (s): live like a lady (not like a pig), get my wisdom teeth pulled, and update Cha Cha Charming more often. I've been scolded by a few readers for slacking off over the past couple of months, and I apologize. I'll begin the two-week recap with today— seven little BUST girls working under below-freezing conditions (just incase you thought it was as a "dress as your favorite homeless person" contest, in which case Tracie would've won). Introducing the BUST girls in all their hot glory......

recap_1.jpg

Left to right: Emily (managing editor), Elizabeth (senior designer), Laurie (art director/ publisher), me (marketing coordinator), Tracie (fashion editor), Debbie (editor-in-chief/ publisher), Anna (our newest intern from Gothenburg, Sweden), and a family of camera-shy mice.

The night before a bunch of us took beloved BUST intern (and my adorable marketing assistant) Rachel out for her last night in New York City, before she begins her journey to the White House. Rachel is BUST's official nominee for the White House come 2035.

Left to right: Sara, Rachel, Sheila, Vikki sipping gin-loaded cocktails mixed with fresh kiwis, blackberries, and grapes at my favorite secret speak easy.

Then there's the Ark—Swedish glam rockers and my current obsession. Their live shows are not to be missed. I was miserable two hours before their gig, and couldn't stop smiling two hours after. Magic.

And..... the ladies lead the night at Smashed! Blocked! on December 2nd with Anna Copacabana and naughty J-girl Jaiko Suzuki providing the shimmies and shakes. I think it was one of my best DJ sets ever—made me wanna swear off all music post-1969. But then I remember the unforgettable Kid Robot party where I played '70s bubblegum pop and Cyndi Lauper's "Goonies R Good Enough" (which made one boy cry).
