You go boy! 07.24.05
Siwat and I go way back- to Junior High when he (in a Poison shirt) and I (in Skid Row attire) spotted each other across the hall and formed a hair metal bond that's lasted nearly 15 years. I cheered him on when he started his first band Crimson Diablo (even though he wrote his first power ballad about Marisa and not me!) and I still love him despite his recent decision to get an Elliot Smith tattoo. Last night a bunch of us gathered at his newly purchased East Village apartment for a housewarming party. And as soon as I pulled out the camera, Siwat laid on the guilt by saying that I never include him in my diary. So we girls thought we'd give him a little extra something special- a diary dedication and a hot photo op where he could play Mr. Casanova for the evening. From now until September it's non-stop party-hosting.. Will be sending out proper invites/ e-mails 'bout all the following parties, but wanted to give you all a heads-up for now.... BUST "Men We Love" party Lady DJs Princess Superstar, DJ Shakey + more salute the men we love! ------- Le One Night Stand presents DJ's Timo Ellis (Cibo Matto), Melody Nelson, Sheila B, + Amylu ------- Le One Night Stand presents ------- And more DJ surprises for Labor Day weekend- September 2nd + 3rd, so don't be fleeing the city y'all. I'm off to Vancouver this week to go gambling with my grandma. Sheila Posted by Sheila at 04:00 PM Bastille Bash 07.15.05
Your Le One Night Stand hostesses- Amylu, Audrey (Melody Nelson) and I- threw one helluva party last night at Chinese massage parlor turned club Happy Ending. Partygoers were greeted with mini French flags, Chupa Chups lollipops, free Svedka vodka, Keren Ann giveaways, and five hours of international pop + rock n'roll. Lotsa native Parisians and hot Japanese girls on the dance floor. I mixed bass-heavy Japanese sixties 45s with French synth-pop girls Lio and Mylene Farmer. "Strictly 45s" tag-team Josh Styles and Peppermint Twist stuck to the sixties with an amazing Annie Philippe song I'd never heard and Jany L.'s "Le Restaurant Chinois" (hey, I thought I was the only one who had this record). Audrey's French set had the entire club dancing. The French kids were goin' nuts. Thanks for Corinne Charby's "Pile Ou Face" Audrey! And finally, Spanish hotties Pablo and Miss Bondage ventured into punk and rock n'roll, although we're still a bit confused about the original "Anarchy In The U.K." being included in their set. Merlin Bronques from LAST NIGHTS PARTY snapped away the entire night, so you can check out photos HERE. Scroll down for Le One Night Stand. My plan was to hibernate this weekend- catch up on rest and work, but after sharing vanilla vodkas with Layla (Peppermint Twist) and totally hitting it off (she's a hardcore sixties freakbeat collector, DJ, and all around awesome girl) I have no excuse not to see her DJ tonight at Tainted Lady Lounge in Williamsburg with five other girl DJs. Here's the deal: Tainted Lady Lounge I seemed to have misplaced my flyer, but I think the party starts @ 10 pm. See you there. And happy birthday Lex! We packed six girls (Ami, Mary, Alissa, Julie, Alice, and me) and one dog (Lexus) into a rented Buick and headed upstate to my dad's house in Pine Plains, NY- land of cows, hunters, and beautiful rolling hills. The only rule was "no cool music allowed" so on the way over it was Billy Ocean's "Caribbean Queen" and Wham's "Everything She Wants" and during our stay my dad's "Dreamy Angels" (Enya, Vangelis) and "Bar Jazz Samba 1" CD mixes were programmed to repeat. By 11 pm on Saturday night, Mary pulled out her "Power Ballads" mix and all hell broke loose. Pair six sun-stroked drunk-ettes with Heart's "Alone," Merrilee Rush's "Angel Of The Morning," and Toto's "Africa," and you've got spilled wine, tears, and one girlish mess. It was H-E-A-V-E-N. And we've got 12 empty wine bottles to prove it! Made a complete ass out of myself in the local supermarket while we were all hovered over a copy of celeb-trash mag Star. In my loudest, most obnoxious "I'm obviously from NYC" voice, I screamed, "Eeew, who the f*** would ever marry Ben Affleck. The guy's such a prep. And he STILL wears Docksiders!" only to turn around and find myself staring down at two sweet looking preppy boys, both wearing Docksiders. Ugh.... BASTILLE DAY is coming up my friends, so come celebrate with us at the third Le One Night Stand- now New York's official international pop party! Your DJs are Melody Nelson, Josh Styles & Peppermint Twist, Pablo & Miss Bondage (from Spain), and me. Thursday July 14th, 2005 *Free Svedka Vodka from 9:30-10:30 pm Time slots are: 9:30- 11:00 pm— Josh Styles & Peppermint Twist Flyer here. See y'all at the party! It's 11:30 pm and there are about 800 people on the roof of my building. Normally I'd be up there right now, but the DJ is playing this awful latin-house that no one seems to be enjoying. So while I wait for the next good song, I thought I'd upload some photos from tonite's party- a mega July fourth celebration complete with the best view of the Manhattan fireworks. Off topic but, I wake up every morning to Stevie Nicks' "Stand Back." Greatest lyrics set to greatest rhythm: "First he took my heart then he ran." Saw Louis Malle's debut film last night- Elevator To The Gallows (1957). Jeanne Moreau's not my favorite actress, but the story's brill. Trailers for Elevator To The Gallows included Wong Kar Wai's 2046 (I can't wait any longer!) and Pretty Persuasion (Lolita for 2005). Sheila Posted by Sheila at 11:46 PM |
