cat city

08.12.07

Breakfast at the #1 Pancake House in Amsterdam turned up an equally yummy treasure on Dutch radio. Supposedly Earth & Fire had loads of hits in the '60s thru '80s, but it was "Weekend" that caught my ear. Hopefully the unsightly late '70s visuals on this YouTube clip won't spoil the fun. I think you'll agree that the melodies are brilliant.

Amsterdam is cat city, and I spent most of my summer vaca watching hundreds of felines sunning on the window sills. Like so many cities, Amsterdam is also losing its record stores. While there are still a few scattered about the city, digging through singles boxes will reveal every Dutch picture sleeve of Toto's "Africa," and nothing from Bonny St. Claire, Linda Van Dyck, and other '60s Dutch girls we're all so desperate for. At Noordermarkt, however, I did find a stack of late '70s teen girl magazine/comic "Tina." Too cute, huh? And in the ladies toilet came the name of the new girl group I'm currently in the process of developing. I don't wanna be so hush-hush about it, but I'm afraid I have to.

Me so happy in Amsterdam

This coming Friday night at Cherrybomb , we'll be celebrating girl-pop, Lora Findlay's b-day, and a guest DJ set from London's jazzercise trio, The Duloks. Same time (9 pm), same place (Betsey Trotwood). All the deets live here.

And to give you plenty of heads up, on Friday September 21st my friend Ruth + I are celebrating our 30th b-days with a mega-bash at the Bethnal Green Working Man's Club. Expect go-go girls, Alexis from Hot Chip on the decks, and many many many more reasons to make this party a must!
