We Are Shampoo

Funny to have been offered a gig writing the liner notes for the re-release of Shampoo's debut We Are Shampoo, when much of my teen years were spent cutting out magazine clippings of Jacqui and Carrie, and worshipping their blonde brashness and bondage Barbie Doll collections. Post-riot grrrl, pre-Spice Girls, Shampoo were the ideal duo for a teenage girl in dire need of girl-powered pop, minus the ditz and politics. Nearly 13 years later, and I'm still craving girl-pop as real and irreverent as We Are Shampoo. Hopefully Cha Cha Charming readers will already know of the genius of "Trouble" and "We Don't Care" and "Viva La Megababes." If not, click on the links to Amazon below, where you'll find Cherry Red's reissue with my notes, my pal Lora Findlay's prettiest pink graphics, and 18 Shampoo goodies.

And continuing with the girl-pop theme, tonite at Cherrybomb, we've got NME editor Krissi Murison and her femme record collection. Party starts at 9pm upstairs at the Betsey Trotwood, 156 Farringdon Road. The flyer lives here.

I'll be there with Uffie, Alphabeat, Les Flechettes, and some new 45s.
