Worry About The Wind

05.19.05

Home sweet home after six weeks in Asia. I'll never take a direct Hong Kong- New York flight again. I can tolerate the 13 hours it takes to get to Tokyo, but 16 hours is excruciating. By the last two hours I was making up games to play with myself- one of which I called "Listen Without Prejudice" featuring UNCUT magazine's companion CD.
Since I am totally guilty of harshly judging bands before even giving them a proper listen, I decided to listen to the full compilation without peeking at the tracklist. My little game didn't turn out to be too much fun, as most of the bands were predictably crap, but I did discover one gem- HAL "Worry About the Wind," which I played over and over until the plane touched ground. I'm a little hesitant to recommend them, as all my friends have given me that "why the hell do you like this?" look after hearing the track. But I think it's absolutely fantastic. The melodies evoke all sorts of emotions in me- at which point I'm ready to call them the best group I've heard all year. If the Beach Boys, late '60s harmony groups, sunshine pop is your thing, search out HAL here.

As I try desperately to recover from this jetlag, I've been working on new articles for the site, which should be up sometime in early June. Also my new partner in NY partying Amylu is throwing her next LE ONE NIGHT STAND at Bar Eleven on Thursday June 9th where I'll be Djing along with Melody Nelson and Josh Styles/ Peppermint Twist. The flyer will be posted to the Events section this weekend.
